Oahu and Maui, Hawai'i: Great Choices for your Next Family Trip

It's easy to tell just by looking at pictures, Hawai'i is a state of mind. Spanning 8 major islands (and many smaller islands), the "Aloha State" offers picturesque views and adventure around every corner.

Recently, our agent Carrie was given the opportunity to fly across the Pacific and join Apple Leisure Group Vacations (ALGV) on an in-depth look at some of the properties they offer in both O'ahu and Maui. Check out her thoughts on two of the top resorts she toured while visiting these two beautiful destinations.

Where should I stay on my visit to Hawai’i?

This is a BIG question that is asked often and can be different for everyone. First, you need to decide on what island, or islands, you're going to visit. Each island has it's own personality and unique features but, in the end, they are all one big O’hana! I'm going to focus on two of the main islands, Oahu and Maui.

O'ahu

O’ahu! The vibrant island! Many refer to it as the party island, but don't let that stop you even when looking for a quiet trip! This island has a rich history and some breathtaking landmarks.

When visiting O'ahu, you'll find more hotels than condos or villas. This is due to O'ahu having such a vibrant city scape and so space is limited. Many hotels are located right in the heart of the island, allowing you to stay in the hustle and bustle of Waikiki Beach! With so many things within walking distance there's no need for a rental car which is a great perk to staying in this area.

One hotel to fall in love with is the Alohilani Resort Waikiki Beach. Just steps away from Waikiki Beach, and within easy walking distance to shopping, you feel like you're already at the ocean from the moment you walk into the lobby. With the grand oceanarium as the backdrop of the O Bar, you can watch all of the marine life swimming right by you as you sip your tropical drink. Want to stay physically fit during vacation? You can also view the top of the aquarium from the 24-hour fitness facility. This rooftop features the fitness center, tennis and pickleball courts, and a saltwater infinity edge pool! What’s not to love?!?

Want an elevated experience? Be sure to ask your Magical Moments Vacations agent to add the Longboard Club to your stay. This gives you access to an exclusive lounge that has daily continental breakfast, appetizers, selections of wine, and even a made-to-order pasta station! Yummm! Plus, it has the most amazing views of Waikiki Beach and iconic Diamond Head.  All of this is included when you upgrade to the Longboard Club!

Maui

Maui gives off a much different feel than O'ahu! It's actually made up of 3 islands which is collectively called "Maui Nui". The three islands include Maui, Moloka’i, and Lana’i. While there are some hotel options to stay on Moloka’i and Lana’i, they are extremely unique and not your typical island vacation.

In order to take in the real beauty of Maui, you'll definitely want a rental car which will allow you to experience all that Maui has to offer.

Want beautiful views, a great location, and fun amenities? Then The Westin Maui Resort & Spa, Ka’anapali is for you! This resort is situated on the sandy shores of Ka’anapali Beach and just steps away from Whalers Village, a shopping and dining destination for the whole family. This resort is great for couples and families alike.  The room options here are endless, from standard rooms looking at the mountains to "one or two bedroom presidential suites" with panoramic ocean views.

Those booked in the Hokupa’a Tower have access to The Lanai at Hokupa’a which offers daily small-bites breakfast, a private bar, infinity edge cocktail pools, and a personal guest experience team to make sure you have a wonderful stay.

Now for the important part of the resort... the Kawaiola Aquatic Playground! ! For the kids and, let’s be honest, the adults too, this amazing spot features a 270-foot water slide, fun splash zone, and 6 pools, including an adult only infinity pool and hot tub.

There are so many resort options when you visit the islands! Just like the islands are unique, so is each hotel and their offerings. Be sure to reach out to your Magical Moments Vacations agent so they can help you select the right one for your upcoming vacation to Hawai’i!
